IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LOOONG..
OK so Shelby is right, we've become addicted to Tumblr. Sad but true. So what else have we been up to since then? School started. That's about it.
It may take a while to get back on our fashionable feet, forgive us!

Animal House
So if I haven't already told you, which I probably have, Chelsea, Neema, Shelby, and I have entered Virgin Mobile's "On the House" contest. With all four of us paying for our own post-secondary, taking out student loans, and working part-time, we STILL need some help finding rent for a house of our very own! So we've entered this contest as team FATSVILLE to get some free rent for our lovely abode.

ME, RECYCLING. NO BIG DEAL, JUST DOING MY PART
FATSVILLE's got mad respect for Mother Nature, and we try to do our part to help her out. And none of us want to pay MORE for energy we don't need/use, so we all gotta limit our showers and flick off. And maybe it's because I'm lazy, or just gross, but I know I reuse my dishes when they're not that dirty... it saves water!

We recycle all our stuff! Any stray empties and bottles left behind after a party, we'll stash away in these nifty IKEA recycling bags and take them to the University Bottle Depot and get some cash back for some groceries (or clothes). And who says we need to have brand-spankin' new furniture? Goodwill and Value Village are the IKEAs of poor university students.

DON'T SKIMP ON STYLE
And for what we can't recycle, we compost it. Good soil makes for good gardens, and a few of us are hippies, so we love us some organic grub. Why not? It's healthy, right? And to be extra kid-crafty we save old popsicle sticks for garden labels. Someday, we'll master the art of baking our own zucchini bread. AND have you ever heard of Freeganism?! Being a freegan is apparently the coolest thing on the face of the earth. I think it's a possibility at FATSVILLE. Talk about saving money on food...

And just so everyone knows how serious we are about this, we've established some house rules for us and anyone who happens to find themselves in our little house:
FATSVILLE HOUSE RULES
1. make communal meals
2. wear sweaters when it's cold instead of blasting the heat
3. short showers
4. close the fridge door, please
5. lights off when you ain't home
6. unplug when you ain' t using it
7. big loads of laundry! Kill more birds with that stone!
8. use transit! bike!
9. carpool! We all go to the same school anyways.
10. if it's yellow, let it mellow.. sometimes.
11. recycle them bottles and cans from parties and get cash money!
12. use said money to buy green cleaning products
13. if you're too poor, DIY. It's fun, it's cheap, and it's unique. Design Sponge* is the coolest site for DIY if you're interested.
IN CONCLUSION: We live in, and love, Calgary, the weirdest-weathered city in the world. You can experience all four seasons in a matter of hours, promise. But with global warming, there'd be no surprises! Just hot weather. Plus, we're cold-weather women. We love snow, and everything that comes with it: skiing, snowboarding, sledding, skating, partying.
Even though we love the shorts and t-shirts, heavy sweating just doesn't work for us.

And so begins the best four days of my summer! The Calgary Folk Music Festival starts today! Four days of Birkenstocks, Toms, ponchos, dirt, weed, music, tribal prints, henna, and all-around hippiness. The best vegetarian/organic food you will ever eat, the best people you'll meet, the best music you'll hear, the best market you'll ever roam.
And the best vibes in the wooooooorld.

Giddy-Up
STAMPEDE STARTS TOMORROW. I went to the sneak peek today. Funnn stuff! My favorite: getting hypnotized. It's something I've been dying to do since I was little. Reality: it was disappointing. I don't think it worked on me...
anywaysss it's time to feel some Calgarian pride. Wear boots, plaid, cowboy hats, and be rowdy.

Wanderlust
WELLLLL I'm back from my latest trip to Europaaa! So much fun had a blast and then some. I got to see some really amazing things and met some amazing people. Plus there was some really good shopping and food, except in Czech Republic, that is some of the worst food I have ever eaten, but everywhere else was very tasty and fatty.
In case anyone is heading to the most sophisticated continent (my opinion) any time soon, here is a good list of places to shop in general:
- H&M (I probably went into every single one that I passed by, bought something every time)
- TOPSHOP/TOPMAN
- MANGO
- PULL AND BEAR
- UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON
- ZARA
- ANN CHRISTE(for da gurlzzz)
- NEW YORKER (gotta look through some really bad euro-trash shit)
Even though we have some of the brands here in cold Canada they are definitely way better over there.
Of course they also had some pretty... interesting music, Euro-trash is always fun to listen to and get really drunk to. Some favorites of the trip were:
- Robyn's "Dancing on my Own"
- Aggros Santos' "Candy"
- Alexandra Burke's "All Night"
- Kylie Minogue's "All the Lovers"
- ANY LADY GAGA (even though I hate her, well more of a love-hate)
- ATB's "Ecstasy"
- Fragma's "Toca Me"
- Agnes' "Release Me"
- Tinchy Stryder's "Number 1"
- Iyaz's "Solo"
And since I like Robyn a lot I will show you the "Dancing on my Own" Music Video because it's amazing and because she's Swedish which makes her hot, stylish, and talented.

leopurred

Of course, rather than study for my HROD midterm tomorrow morning, I decided to research my latest and greatest obsession: leopard print. It's classic, but for some reason I love it now more than ever. Since I'm always obsessed with nail polish, I wanted to get myself some leopard print nails, so I looked it up on YouTube and found an amazing tutorial that's really realistic. Being my asian nail-doing-expert self, I hooked myself up with some pretty ones. So, I did my nails in leopard print, decided against buying these beautiful Jeffrey Campbell 99 wedges, and then looked up where to buy a leopard print snuggie. Productive night, no? I feel another all-nighter coming up. Surprise surprise.

So as me and my friend Chelsea are walking back from a delicious meal of Tubby Dawwwwwg... a lovely, professional man, driving his lovely, professional car, stops us and says:
"HOW ABOUT 50 BUCKS FOR A FLASH OF YOUR TITS?"
Like seriouslyyyy. The city I live in...

my poor fuckin' necklace
Crazy weekend. Steve Aoki at Flames Central on Sunday... I must admit, I imagined FC to be a lame sports bar-type club. It's really not, very modern/european, great setup. I'm impressed. Now tooo the music.. not what I was hoping for. Aoki throws a mad party, but he played the same song three times (although reworked). Not impressed. But still amazing! The Cobrasnake was chillin' and snappin' up photos, it was all cool until I saw my friend who got me onstage. Then it got insane.
Anyways, bad points of the night: halfway through Aoki's banging set, I realise my necklace (made from my mom's old foot-in-sandal-trinket) IS GONE. ALONG WITH MY HOUSEKEYS. So I panic, crawl around people's legs and get my hands/feet stepped on, until I find the mangled pieces of my necklace/trinket and my fully-intact housekeys. The poor little necklace is about 80% okay and still wearable, minus the thin wires around the foot and the diamond that was wrapped in the wires. I hate losing things. I hate having things broken. I wish I never wore it. That little diamond is probably lying somewhere in the trash, crying.
I'm scared to tell my mother.

DIY
even though it's been really crazy right now, what with spring courses, work, being home alone with my brother for six weeks... I still feel a little stir-crazy. Maybe it's the fact that everyone else I know is having a blast with their summer..
I found a bunch of DIY sites and projects that are the perfect thing to cure this stir-craziness:
1) P.S. I made this
2) Design Sponge
looooooving these:

I'm feelin' a little portraiture coming uppp...
Also a little self-promotion here: my art got posted on EatSleepDraw a while ago! The link is here. It's a portrait I did for Celine in grade 12. Gotta say, one of my faves.. I wish I'd kept it for myself. But I'm glad I gave to someone I loooove. :)

If I Had a Million Dollars
the cheesy song reference just doesn't suit this classy website.. I'm drooling over the estate jewelry here. Also can't wait until the day I've arranged-marriaged my way to a wealthy oil tycoon.

P.S. I learned how to use a dryer today. Oh, and I started spring courses yesterday. I kind of like it.

sound as space
two posts in one day. I was doing a little six degrees with Shelby's link and I found this amazing installation by Lianna Herzog that takes sound readings and translates them into 3D art! loving it. Apparently she's not the only one. A lot of artists like Andy Huntington have taken sound and made it a physical, touchable objet d'art. I'm obsessed.

pez?
Today was my only day off from work, right before I started spring courses, so I met up with my bud Tianna for half-price frappucinos and then a little thrifting at the dollar store! Usually I go to the dollar store for some cheap craft supplies and whatnot, but today we found some really sweet pez dispensers! Remember those? I actually missed my old one that I got for my.. 9th birthday? So I picked up a couple... Iron Man and C3PO. Of course I won't use them, but it's nice to think about the good old days when I didn't need to stress about school or have to take care of myself

The Only Home We Have Ever Known
Heading to Czech in one day! So expect some even more delayed postings from me. Here's a pic of my new home, BRNO!

Also inspired by L's post about the cosmos is a lovely youtube clip. This speech was from Carl Sagan's intro of his book "Pale Blue Dot". I watched this before all my exams so I hope it inspires and pumps you up the same way it did for me.

DO YOU EVER WONDER IF THERE IS LIFE SOMEWHERE? WHY ARE WE SO INSIGNIFICANT?
feelin' a little tired and dry-eyed.. but I miss having my little astronomy classes at the Calgary Science Center (RIP). I was a little bored and feelin' a little philosophical so I checked out NASA's huge stash of space photos.. really loving it.
Also, can't wait for a little photo-taking of my own! Placed a tiny bid on a Canon Rebel XSi! Also nabbed a pair of ksubis.. might be getting another pair.
My little eBay addiction is getting out of hand...

Ruff St-icks
Just came back from Portland. Tax free shopping is amazing, but also leaves you with a much lighter wallet.
Went to Powell's and picked up some awesome books. Two old travel guides (one from 1937 the other 1785). I love those old books because they have amazing color paintings and also were made in a time where not every thing was known. The world is better with a little mystery.
I also snatched a great coffee table book (I've collected quite a few now) on Punks and Skins in England during the mid-Eighties. From Antro I also found Sophie Dahl's cook book (Roald Dahl's granddaughter). Anything that last name is attached to is amazing and I've already made three recipes which were heaven in my mouth. She also writes funny little comments in the instructions so its even a fun read!
